STRIVING FOR SAFE TECH IN OUR LITTLE STATE

OPT-OUT OF RHODE ISLAND ENERGY'S  "ADVANCED" METERS

"Smart" or "Advanced" meters have not been proven safe, nor have they been proven green. Yet their rollout began March 2025. Opting-Out of the "Advanced" AMF meters is possible! Click below on brochure.

WAKE UP CALL FOR RHODE ISLAND

These meters, whether called "Smart" or "Advanced," are neither. They have not been proven safe, nor have they been proven green.  They are potentially dangerous for Rhode Islanders, their pets, and wildlife.

OPT - OUT!

The good news is that Rhode Islanders can Opt-Out of the installation of an "Advanced" (AMF) meter on their home. We care about Rhode Island, its people, and its environment. We don't want Radiofrequency Radiation polluting our little state.
Please scroll down to find HOW TO OPT-OUT.

HOW TO OPT-OUT

TO OPT-OUT
CALL RI ENERGY AT 401-784-4300.

Request written confirmation of your intention to both OPT-OUT and keep your current meter. Be sure to post a sign on the current (non-AMF) meter stating your intention to keep it.
Rhode Island Energy plans to mail Rhode Island residential electricity customers postcards 45 days and 21 days before new meter installation. In these two postcards Rhode Island Energy states, on page 2, that: "Residential customers who are not participating in a program that authorizes the customer to export power to the Company's electric distribution system (e.g., solar or other distributed generation) may opt out of the installation by calling 1-401-784-4300. Those customers who choose to opt-out of an advanced meter will be subject to additional charges on their bill: (1) A meter exchange fee of $36; and (2) A monthly meter read fee of $20, as approved by the Rhode Island Public Utility Commission in late 2024. Customers who choose to opt-out during deployment and prior to installation will not be charged the meter exchange fee but are subject to the monthly meter read fee."

If Rhode Island Energy has already installed an AMF (Smart) meter on your home, you can still Opt-Out. In this case, Rhode Island Energy will charge $36 to replace the AMF meter with a non-communicating meter, which will cost $20 a month to be manually read by the company. That fee is worth it for your piece of mind. Be sure to post a sign on the non-communicating meter stating your intention to keep it.

More information on why we are opting out of "advanced" meters can be found at our Smart Meter tab.
